V-Ray 3.0公開測試,主打更快明暗效果、渲染和新介面

隨著Autodesk 3ds Max步入2014版本,堪稱世界上最快,最完善的CG級渲染工具V-Ray亦著手開發,迎來了3.0 beta版本,現接受3ds Max版的公開測試。

V-Ray 共同創辦人之一的 Vladimir “Vlado” Koylazov,早在六月EUE (End User Event) 2013上展示了未來版本的 V-Ray 的新功能和改進的方向,他沒有食言,在3.0 beta呈現了明暗效果(shading)、渲染(Rendering)及新介面的改進。

我們在這裡小小探討一些較矚目的新功能:

Shading-Improved Hair (加強毛髮處理)

因為 V-Ray 越來越經常被運用在人物、動物角色的毛髮製作上,所以在 3.0 的毛髮明暗處理也被改善了。V-Ray 2.0 已經加入了一個特製的毛髮 Shader,也支援 3ds Max 和 Maya 的毛髮系統像是 Hair & Fir、Ornatrix、HairFarm、Maya 的 Hair/nHair、Shave & Haircut和Yeti。

在 3.0 的毛髮 Shader 對於毛髮的半透明也有改善,可做出自然柔軟的感覺。而記憶體的用量和毛髮的 Raytracing 也有明顯的改進。在早期測試中已做出5-15倍速度的改進,Chaos Team期待可在beta公測中再琢磨到更理想的速度。

在以下短片中,計算一張 960×560 的影像,長著長髮的角色,用原本 V-Ray 2.4 版本計算約 4 分 40 秒的時間,現在因為 V-Ray 3.0 優化了 Ray-tracing 的計算核心以及毛髮材質來更快的計算數百萬根的半透明毛髮,所以花了約 2 分 35 秒的時間,比起前一版本快上了 2 分鐘的時間。

Rendering-Progressive rendering (漸進渲染)

V-Ray 3.0 在 Image Sampler 選項中加入了一種 ”Progressive ”的影像採樣模式,讓你可以按下算圖時可快速的看到整個影像的效果,影像品質也隨著時間會不斷的細緻化,這是使用與 V-Ray RT 相同的 Path tracing 技術,更棒的是,這種漸進式採樣是完全支援 V-Ray 的所有功能,也就是說可完全應用在 Production Render 上,更可以讓使用者的作業更加有效率。

以下短片展示了如何輕鬆地微調的V-Ray的霧,看點是Progressive Rendering可以在最複雜的V-Ray功能中,以設置和重複場景。

New User Interface (新介面)

V-Ray3.0實現了一個簡潔的用家介面:它具備了3個模式:基本,高級和專家。這些模式可隨時被切換來展現額外的控制項,使大多數用家能找到他們的日常生產工作最有效的模式。

新的使用者介面也將會提供更新文件的連結以及工具提示說明。

除了以上新功能外,其他如Ray-traced SSS、New Skin Shader (開發中)、Faster Ray Tracing、RT GPU Render Elements等都是值得CGers關注的新功能和改善,有興趣的話,可申請加入公測行列,為Chaos Team及整個CG社群提供意見:

不過注意公測時間只有三個月,即使沒興趣加入公測的朋友,或者亦會察覺到這三個月的時限相當耐人尋味,V-Ray 3.0到底會否在年底正式發售呢?

   Followed by Autodesk 3ds Max 2014, the world’s fastest complete CG rendering tool, V-Ray also steps into its 3.0 beta, and its 3ds Max version is now open for public test.

Back in June, V-Ray’s Co-founder, Vladimir “Vlado” Koylazov showcased a future version of V-Ray, featuring new features and improvements on Shading, Rendering, and new UI in the EUE (End User Event) 2013.

We hereby quoted a few key new features:

Shading-Improved Hair

V-Ray are more often used to create human and animals characters’ hair in productions.  In 3.0, workflow of Hair has been improved.  Back in V-Ray 2.0,  special hair Shader are added, which supports 3ds Max and Maya hair workflow with features like Hair & Fir, Ornatrix, HairFarm, Maya’s Hair / nHair, Shave & Haircut and Yeti.

V-Ray 3.0  introduces core ray tracing improvements and shading optimizations for rendering millions of strands of semi-transparent hair. Early tests show rendering performance is 5 to 15 times faster, and we Chaos Team will continue to explore refinements throughout the beta process.

In the following video, computing a 960×560 image of a long-haired character, with initial V-Ray 2.4, results a 4 minutes and 40 seconds rendering.  While V-Ray 3.0 is optimized for Ray-tracing calculations cores and hair materials, the rendering time is 2 minutes 35 second faster than the previous version.

Rendering-Progressive rendering

V-Ray 3.0 added a “Progressive”  image sampler,

V-Ray 3.0 added a “Progressive” image sampling mode in Image Sampler option, which allow you see the entire image effect and quality along with the time constant by pressing the rendering calculator.  Built on the same path tracing technology as V-Ray RT, the Progressive Renderer is a simple, intuitive solution for any scene.

From the following video, we take a look at the Progressive Rendering inside V-Ray 3.0. With the new Progressive Renderer it’s possible to set up a scene in seconds and iterate even with the most complex V-Ray features. In this example, we showcase how to easily fine-tune V-Ray Fog. Stay tuned for upcoming videos, where we will demonstrate progressive rendering using Irradiance and Light Cache.

New User Interface

V-Ray 3.0 has implemented a simpler User Interface. V-Ray 3.0 includes 3 UI modes: Basic, Advanced, and Expert. These modes can be toggled at any time to reveal additional controls, but most artists should find the Quick mode effective for their daily production work.

Direct links to updated documentation and tooltips will also be coming with the new interface.
